Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) is contributing to enhancing human resource capability by sponsoring the best Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) telecommunications engineering student.

In a press release, BTC public relations manager, Mr Golekanye Molapisi says the company has a duty and responsibility to enrich the lives of talented young people.

BTC will sponsor the best telecommunications engineering student to the tune of P20 000.

Sponsorship entails a cash prize of P10 000 and a mobile smart handset bundled with a BTC sim plan, worth P10 000.

It was unveiled at BIUST second graduation ceremony held on Saturday (February 10), where 175 undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, as well as Faculty of Sciences, graduated.

Engineering disciplines, Mr Molapisi said, are linked with economic development of nations, hence the sponsorship as an incentive to students to venture and study technology and science based subjects.

He says as a local company, which believes and has confidence in local talent, BTC is proud to play its part in helping transform Botswana from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.

He also says BTC, as a market leader of converged telecommunication products providing retail and wholesale products and services to mobile operators, ISPs, regional service providers and international service providers, the company works closely with institutions of higher learning to identify the skills needs of the industry.
