MoH develops retention strategy

11 Jul 2013

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has developed an attraction and retention strategy for the public health sector, Parliament has learnt.

Responding to a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said the strategy had been submitted to the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) for consideration.

Notwithstanding that, he said the ministry had continued to implement strategies without structural and huge financial implications such as development of implementation of transfer and recruitment guidelines, induction of district health management leadership, development of schemes of service and job effectiveness descriptions and succession planning.

Palapye MP, Mr Moiseraele Goya had asked the minister if he had developed a comprehensive attraction and retention strategy in order to alleviate the migration of nurses to other countries as it has been the case in the past, if not, when will it be developed. ENDS
