Mabutsane community requests for hall
08 Feb 2018
Mabutsane community submitted a P4 million proposal to Debswana to build a multi-purpose hall and show grounds in 2012.
Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Prince Maele said this in Parliament on February 7, on behalf of the Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security.
Mr Maele said due to financial constraints, Debswana re-engaged village elders, Kgosi, Village Development Committee, Mabutsane Sub-district Council officials and the district commissioner and later the community in a Kgotla meeting requesting them to scale down the project.
“They have since re-submitted a new scope, which is currently under review. The scope and the value will be finalised after review of submission by the Debswana board,” he added.
He noted that the timeline to complete the project would be determined after an agreement had been reached between Debswana and the Mabutsane community.
MP for Jwaneng-Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile had asked the minister to update the house on the status of the multi-purpose community hall and the show grounds construction, which the Community of Mabutsane were promised by Debswana.
Parliament heard that the decision to build the facility was made in 2012.
He also wanted the minister to state when the decision to build the facility was made, the scope and total value of the project and the timeline to complete the project. ENDS
