Specially elected Member of Parliament, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo has encouraged the youth to channel their energies to leading purposedriven lives.
Giving a keynote address during a one-day awareness workshop for interns in the Ministry of Health and Wellness recently, MP Kenewendo encouraged the youth to think about what they wanted to achieve rather than spending time on social media.
“Take a moment to reflect, your energies and functionalities are important to achieving so much and leading a purpose-driven life,” she said.
She encouraged them not to give up on the path they have taken, saying once inside the internship programme, they were able to explore opportunities such as workshops, which helped them grow professionally.
“As interns you are leaders in your own right, I want to urge you to be servants because at the end of the day people don’t care how much you know, they only care about how much you care,” Ms Kenewendo remarked.
Ms Kenewendo encouraged interns to be a workforce that aimed at making a difference wherever they were.
“Where I come from, a leader is a servant of all. We are all leaders and we are all servants, servant leadership begins from within, you have an opportunity to decide where you want to fall, but I encourage you to choose to be a servant leader,” she said.
She motivated the interns to always strive to make a difference in other people’s lives so that they could also do the same for them.
“At the end of it all if you pay your dues, your dues will also be paid to you, as a country we are counting on all of you to be fully functional and important members of the community,” Ms Kenewendo stated.
Ministry of health permanent secretary, Ms Hazel Reaitsanye said the ministry did its best to improve human capital and the internship programme was one of the programmes aimed at achieving such.
“We need to understand that the internship programme is about you becoming better citizens and leaders of tomorrow,” Ms Reaitsanye stated. She said the internship programme cultivated young people who took responsibilities for their actions.
“As a build up to the Month of Youth Against HIV/AIDS, we want to remind you to always take full responsibility all the time in your actions,” she said.
Youth officer in the same ministry, Ms Goitseone Phwatshwane said interns were expected to behave more positively after the workshop.
Ms Phwatshwane also stated that the workshop was one of many events that aimed at positively impacting the youth so that they could do likewise to their environments. ENDS
