Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama says the ministry allocates a budget for staff development annually which caters for short and long-term training of wildlife personnel at Botswana Wildlife Institute.
That was in response to a question in Parliament on February 7.
He said the budget provisions for staff development for the period 2012/2013 to 2016/2017 amounted to P38 936 980.
Minister Khama further told parliamentarians that the lowest qualification in the senior/strategic management cadre, which in this case refers to director, deputy permanent secretary and permanent secretary in the ministry, was a bachelor’s degree.
In addition, he said the highest qualification in middle management and operational cadres was a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) held by the head of the research division in the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
“In other departments staff at middle management and operational cadres hold various qualifications ranging from bachelor’s degree to diploma.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister to state the current lowest qualification in the senior/strategic management cadre of the ministry, the current highest qualification in middle management and operational cadres.
Mr Salakae also wanted to know whether the ministry had a budget for up-skilling of employees and the cost of the budget for the past five years. ENDS
