Ministry aware of uneven road
11 Jul 2013
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has told Parliament that his ministry is aware that certain sections of the Boatle/Ramotswa Road are uneven.
Responding to a question from MP for South East South, Mr Odirile Motlhale, in Parliament on July 10, Mr Molefhi said the unevenness was due to the ageing of the road and needed to be addressed by rehabilitating the entire road.
He, however, said due to financial constraints, his ministry recently had to carry out only temporary maintenance measures on some parts of the road.
The ministry had not considered introducing a layer of asphalt because it was a temporary measure that would require more funding and the road unevenness may still recur if the road is not fully rehabilitated. Mr Motlhale had asked the minister if he was aware that certain sections of the recently rehabilitated Boatle-Ramotswa road are uneven; if so; will he consider topping it with a layer of asphalt as a way of rectifying the problem and improving the lifespan of the road.
