Village Development Committee members in Good Hope sub -District have been advised to preserve their dignity and work hard to help in the development of their communities.
Speaking recently at a workshop hosted at Ramatlabama National Artificial Insemination Lab and Ranch Management centre, Good Hope Sub-district senior accountant council secretary, Mr Robert Rabasimane urged them to serve as role models to the communities they represented.
He advised them that good conduct and dressing smart to work was what would retain their dignity. He said they should avoid campaigning for politicians.
He also said since President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama would be bidding Barolong farewell tomorrow (February 9), they should be involved in the preparations for the visit and make sure that it was well organised.
He also pleaded with them to invite the community so that the event was a success.
Meanwhile, Ipelegeng coordinator, Mr Phineas Lebese advised VDC members to shy away from nepotism when hiring Ipelegeng beneficiaries.
He said when hiring people, they should make sure that everything was transparent to avoid unnecessary complaints that the community usually brought to their offices.
He advised them to involve Dikgosi and ensure that everything was done at the Kgotla.
He was not pleased by Ipelegeng beneficiaries who came to work with their children and advised VDCs to take note of that.
He also said they should monitor them and warned that sleeping while at work was not acceptable.
“Using vulgar language and fights are not accepted too, therefore as VDCs kindly make sure that this does not take place in your communities,” Mr Lebese said.
When giving reports, most VDC members indicated that they worked closely with the Village Extension Teams and social workers.
They also said they were doing everything they could to hold meetings with their communities to make sure that they were aware of government programmes. ENDS
