Acceptable timeframe in scale is 2 years

The acceptance timeframe that a civil servant is expected to stay in a salary scale is a minimum of two years satisfactory service provided there is availability of a vacant position and the officer has proven skills and competences to perform at a higher level.

Assistant minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Dr Gloria Somolekae said when answering a question from MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi in Parliament on July 10.

She said notwithstanding, employees in salary scale made of more than one notch and who have performed satisfactory would normally receive an annual increment thereby moving from one salary notch to the next within the same salary scale. She said upon reaching the top of the salary scale, employees would cease to earn increment.

Dr Somolekae explained that instances where civil servants stayed in one salary scale for five years was when they have reached the top notch in a salary scale and there were no vacant posts to promote them into.

Mr Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state the acceptable timeframe that a civil servant was expected to stay in a salary scale and notch, and instances where some had been in the same scale and notch for over five years. ENDS
