Notwane boost promotion chase

Notwane boosted their automatic promotion challenge with a 2-0 victory over Mogoditshane Fighters which stopped the Samba Boys’ run of four successive wins.
Neither team dominated the blockbuster Debswana First Division South encounter played at Fighters ground on February 3.
However, Sechaba broke the deadlock a minute before recess when centre-back Ronald Selemane, who recently joined from Tafic, scored his first Notwane goal by converting a corner-kick from Boitumelo Modisaotsile.
The hosts missed three opportunities in the second half with Gobe Maphane, who scored in the 1-1 first round encounter between the two sides, scuffing a pass from Thatayaone Pitso.
The forward then failed to beat goalkeeper Michael Pepukani with five minutes remaining while former Notwane midfielder Motheo Peter tapped wide in the dying minutes.
The misses proved costly for Fighters as Tlhalefo Molebatsi sealed victory in stoppage time after collecting a pass from Tsogang Israel.
Former Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs hot-shot Onalethata Tshekiso toiled in Samba Boys attack but was closely marked by Brian Botsang.
Fighters were replaced at the top by Prisons XI which defeated Lesirane City 1-0 on Saturday through a Mokuye Shakambayo goal.
Fighters and Prisons are level with 29 points but the Warders went top with a superior goal difference.
“We played well but failed to take our chances while our opponents took theirs. Our problem was lack of concentration as we allowed them to score towards the end of both halves. But we will go back to the drawing board and bounce back,” said Fighters assistant coach Kelebogile Kgannyeng.
Notwane are now a single point behind the top two teams and assistant coach Kakale Mabechu expressed confidence about their chances of toppling those teams.
Mabechu said their plan was to score first in the match and consolidate their lead.
In other matches, Black Peril beat Matebejana 1-0, Letlapeng defeated Mochudi Rovers by the same score, Red Sparks won 2-0 at Broadhurst United while the encounter between Black Rangers and Modipane United finished in a one all draw. ENDS
