Six environmental health departments at D1

Six out of the 10 district councils in the country have environmental health departments headed at D1 level.

The six district councils are Kweneng, Central, Southern, Chobe, Ghanzi and South East. Answering a question in Parliament from MP for Kgalagadi South Mr John Toto, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the remaining four district councils of Kgatleng, North East, North West and Kgalagadi were headed at D2 level.

She explained that the four district councils were headed at D2 level following the transfer of substantive posts holders with their positions to the Ministry of Health. She further explained that there was no environmental health departments in district councils headed at D3 salary scale.

She added that there were four D1 vacant positions under the environmental health department in district councils and these had been vacant as follows; Central District Council since October 2011, Southern since January 2012, South East since January 2013 and Chobe since February 2013.

The plan was to fill the vacant posts by end of this month. The  minister further explained three officers had been appointed to act for some of the vacant D1 positions and their qualifications.

Mr Toto had asked the minister to state the district councils whose environmental health departments were headed at D1, D2, and D3 salary scale and the number of vacant D1 posts and the period they had remained vacant; and the number and qualifications of officers appointed to act for the vacant D1.
