Khama returns to kgotla

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has informed residents of Nata/Gweta that when he retires as President, he will be taking over his reigns as Kgosi Kgolo of Bangwato.

In his farewell message on February 1, President Khama said after leaving the presidential seat, after serving his Constitutionally- dictated two terms, his subjects would see more of him performing his duties as their kgosi.

President Khama further said he was still going to continue working with them in that regard and in other areas of developing their area, noting that during his term, he had come to them on duty more than 15 times.

He explained that during his visits, he took note of their concerns and challenges which some as government they were still in the process of addressing, citing water challenges .

Meanwhile, a representative of People Living with Disability (PLWD), Mr Tshepo Keonetse praised President Khama for having made laws that helped them to be recoginised.

In response, President Khama stated that everybody despite their condition deserved to be respected and recognised.

He said through the office of PLWD under Office of the President, government had ensured that PLWDs accessed services like everybody else.

In addition, the President noted that he was going to continue ensuring that PLWDs were assisted accordingly and through the Lady Khama Charity Fundation, he would continue with the Housing Appeal assisting those without shelter and other necessities.

For his part, Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga said President Khama had set an example to leaders across the board,calling on fellow politicians from across the spectrum should take note of his legacy.

Meanwhile, residents of Nata/Gweta gave the President 15 cattle, 19 goats, four horses, 26 chickens, six enlands and seven gemsboks as well as P32 500 cash. ENDS
