Kweneng Land Board (KLB) chairperson, Mr Moemedi Babitseng has indicated that they are owed over P13 million in lease payments.
This was said at the ongoing meeting of land board members in Molepolole.
“Our revenue department has been struggling with collection of money that is being owed to the land board due to different reasons. At the moment KLB is being owed a total amount of P13 300 000.
“We were informed that some of the reasons why there was so much money being owed to the land board was that the records were not up to date. The revenue officers were unable to locate clients. Some of them change their addresses frequently and never come to update with the office thus making it difficult to trace them,” he said.
Mr Babitseng encouraged board members to assist in the collection of revenue from clients as uncollected debts lead to a budget deficit. Still at the meeting, the chairperson requested land board members to always uphold the core values of their institution.
“The core value that I want you as board members to uphold at all times when interacting with clients is that of Botho.
This value takes centre stage when providing different services to customers,” he emphasised. He further indicated that when they assist clients portraying Botho their jobs would be easier and that clients would not register many complaints as they normally do. He also said that the value of Botho would lead to reduced cases of corruption.
“Botho will demand you as an officer to provide service with a courteous, polite, respective and considerate manner. When providing service in a respective and considerate manner there will be no chances of practising corruption of which it is believed to be rampant in our institution,” he noted.
He further explained that corruption harms the economy, erodes the dignity of the workplace and goes to an extent of destroying careers of officers. The chairperson urged board members to always be on the lookout for such cases and report them to relevant authorities.
When commenting on his remarks, some of the board members requested an update on how far they were with the land registration campaign of which they were informed that they were standing at 39.2 per cent completion of land registration.
A board member of the main land board, Mr Maoto Khudu encouraged members to sensitise the community about the campaign, stating that they were the relevant people that were in a position to make the campaign possible and successful. ENDS
