Kgari Sechele II Senior Secondary School head says the two weeks boot camp the school hosted last year has impacted positively on students.
Mr Lapologang Kolagano said this in an interview stating that they were already noticing encouraging response from boot camp participants.
“Even though it might be too early to start talking about the change that we were hoping to notice we have to give credit where it is due,” he said.
He noted that in the past weeks that the students came back from the holidays they had realised an improvement when it came to time management.
Furthermore, he noted that some of the students who were known to be troublesome, always causing problems in the school were now the ones making sure that other students were always on their best behaviour.
Mr Kolagano said it seemed most of the students had their priorities in order as they now had students who had grouped themselves together and formed Pledge 48 initiative. Pledge 48 is an initiative aiming at encouraging academic excellence.
“Every student who is a member of Pledge 48 has vowed to obtain 48 points in their BGCSE results,” he explained.
He said as the school management they will do anything to assist such students so that their academic performance improves.
“We also trust that the good behaviour and dedication that the students are displaying will not be temporary but they will stick to it until their time in school comes to end. We are indeed grateful to the boot camp as it has now placed them in a good space,” said Mr Kolagano.
The school head noted that they would keep on working closely with student’s representative council so as to ensure continuous good behaviour.
The SRC president Mr Pako Motlhagodi has noted that they too were grateful to the boot camp.
“We have learnt a lot of things from the boot camp. We were taught issues of discipline, health issues, time management, and ways of handling social ills and we will make sure we practice whatever was taught to us over the two weeks we spent in the boot camp,” he said.
Mr Motlhagodi said as the SRC they too had noticed behavioral change in most of the students.
He said that they do no longer come to school late. They wear proper school uniform and have their priorities in order. Ends
