Lobatse residents applaud legislator

Residents of Lobatse have applauded their Member of Parliament, Advocate Sadique Kebonang for his commitment to his constituents.
Addressing a kgotla meeting recently in Woodhall ward, advocate Kebonang, who is also Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, indicated that most of the development projects that he promised residents at the beginning of his term in office have started with some already operating.
Advocate Kebonang cited establishments such as Pasdec, which is operational and have created jobs for the community of Lobatse.
He indicated that with regard to Lobatse Clay Works, plans are underway with investors and Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) to expand the establishment so as to create sustainable jobs for the residents of Lobatse.
Minister Kebonang also indicated that the long awaited Leather Park groundbreaking will be this April.
On other issues, advocate Kebonang said government is addressing challenges of water in Lobatse.
He said funds have been secured for connection of water pipes from Gaborone to Lobatse and that a tender for that project is in process.
He also indicated that shortage of police accommodation in Lobatse is attended to.
In response to Minister’s remarks, Mr Baabina Lobatse applauded Adv Kebonang for his good deeds in Lobatse.
He said as residents of Lobatse they will be honored to vote him back in the next general elections.
Another resident, Ms Seanokeng Sebakane expressed her happiness at the establishment of Pasdec.
She noted that Pasdec has created many jobs for the residents and that many have been absorbed as a result.
Although residents expressed their satisfaction to their member of Parliament, they however raised concern at neglect of old structures, some of which are historic, found in Lobatse.
Mr Solomon Diphoko cited the legislative council building as one historic building that could be turned into a monument for tourist attraction into the town.
In her response to Mr Diphoko’s comment, Lobatse Mayor, Ms Malebogo Kruger said as a council they have made efforts to turn old historic structures into monuments; however she said they have since handed some buildings to relevant ministries.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, Woodhall Court President, Ms Maleshwane Bakwena raised concern at the many murders that have been taking place around the country.
Ms Bakwena appealed with parents to instill discipline in their children and said they should have open communication with their children so as to understand their challenges in life and be able to address them amicably. ENDS
