Orange Botswana donates digital centre

As part of the digital education drive, Orange Botswana, through the Orange Foundation donated Women’s Digital Centre to Humana People to People organisation in Ghanzi on Thursday.
The centre, equipped with tablets, laptops, printer, a projector and screen, is expected to empower women.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Orange Botswana Legal and Corporate Affairs director, Ms Lepata Mafa said they donated the centre in order to enhance women social economic status.
Ms Mafa said the company believed that women were capable hence the need to support them so that they could have more input in the community.
Also, she said recipients would use the centre to learn how to manage their business and research their market.
Humana People to People director, Mr Moses Zula said access to information would improve social economic status of women who were particularly faced with a challenge of unemployment.
Mr Zula said the benefits of having access to information were huge and so were grateful to Orange.
A representative from Ghanzi North constituency office, Mr Jesus Mosokwe implored Orange Botswana to continue helping Ghanzi community since it was burdened by numerous challenges.
Mr Mosokwe cited challenges such as alcohol abuse which he said were to blame for rampant murder cases in the area, massive school dropouts and high teenage pregnancy adding that the dependency ratio in Ghanzi was high and stood at 98.3 per cent.

Mr Mosokwe appealed to village development committees to encourage women to utilise the centre. A representative from Ghanzi District commissioner’s office, Mr Thatayaone Maithamako who hailed the donation said economic transformation was a responsibility for all, as such underscored the need to enhance women’s role in the community.
