Pride patriotism unite nation

28 Jan 2018

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has urged Batswana to be proud of their country and nationality.

Bidding farewell to the people of Tati East constituency in Tati Siding on Friday, President Khama said Batswana should be proud of themselves, their culture and wellbeing, adding that there would never be anyone who could do that for them if they did not do it themselves.

He said taking pride in what they were would encourage the international community to take note of them and even join them.

Further, the President said relinquishing his duties as the President of the country did not mean he was abdicating his responsibilities as a Motswana, instead he was going to continue with other duties.

President Khama further stated that when he took over the presidency and started some initiatives such as appealing to Batswana to help those who were in dire need, some people viewed that as a strategy to seek votes from the public.

He thus noted that after his term he was going to continue helping Batswana who were in need.

In addition, President Khama said being related to someone should not be the determining factor for one to be helped.

As s nation, there should be that willingness to assist one another without looking for something in return.

For his part, Member of Parliament for Tati East, Mr Samson Guma said President Khama had taught them as leaders, the importance of respecting those they serve, citing that at all the time he preached Botho.

He added that he guided them on the fundamental principles of being a servant of the people, adding that he was always punctual to meetings and expected everyone to follow suit. That alone, he said, taught him to respect time.

Mr Guma thus appealed to President Khama to continue being a motivator and advisor when need arose.

Representing dikgosi, Kgosi Sekgoma Moipolai of Matsiloje said President Khama had been an inspiration to Batswana to retrace their footsteps and revive their cultures and beliefs.

He said that had helped in that people, even young ones understand the importance of acknowledging their heritage.

Kgosi Moipolai further commended President Khama for instilling national values on Batswana, thus enhancing unity among them.

Tati East gave President Khama P5 400 cash, four heifers, nine goats, 20 chickens and portraits among other gifts.

Meanwhile, Mr Guma pledged a quad bike of the president’s own choice.Ends
