Legislature advises residents to seek spiritual intervention
24 Jan 2018
Residents of Manxotae in Nata/Gweta have been urged to seek God’s intervention for good rains which will bring yields in the fields and vegetation for animals.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting in Manxotae recently, area Member of Parliament Mr Polson Majaga said the current heat wave and dry spell was going to result in a serious drought this year unless Batswana can turn their hopes to God for assistance.
He noted that Batswana should not wait for the leadership to call them to prayer noting as God fearing people it should be in them to ensure every time they bowed in prayer for spiritual intervention.
Mr Majaga stated that without rains their area was going to be hard hit because it had high human/wildlife conflict cases.
Furthermore, he noted that without rains there was going to be shortage of grains and as such prices for commodities were going to go up because most of the things would be imported from outside.
Meawhile kgosi Pelotshweu Mokgadi decried shortage of water , saying they could go for weeks without a single drop in the village.
The situation, he noted had resulted in them risking their health by fetching water from the river .
He said during President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s visit last year they were promised that Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) will bowse water for them in the meantime while waiting for the Sowa Water Master Plan for which funds had already been secured.
Kgosi Mokgadi said despite their efforts to get in touch with WUC on their promise to them as Rural Area Dwellers (RAD’s) they never got any feedback from the corporation.
In addition, the kgosi complained about poor project implementation in their village noting that their constituency fund projects were far behind schedule as some had not started.
Often, he said their projects were not supervised by relevant authorities hence many of them were done to substandard or were never completed on time as intended.
Kgosi also decried that their school was not doing well and it had been trailing schools in the region.
He said on their visit to the school, they found out that there was shortage of teaching staff and of the few available were temporary teachers.
For his part, Majaga said he will take up with relevant minister complaints regarding water supply.
Regarding the poor performance of the school, he said they must have a meeting and visit the school as leadership and see means of addressing the situation. Ends
