Moumakwa takes over PEEPA reins

Mr Ezekiel Moumakwa is the new chief executive officer of Public Enterprise Evaluation and Privatization Agency (PEEPA).
A news release from BGCIS states that the appointment, which was made by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, acting on the advice of Cabinet, will effect from February 1, 2018.
The release states that Mr Moumakwa brings to PEEPA wide range of experience in positions of high responsibility in both the public and private sectors, as well as his professional standing as a qualified chartered management accountant.
The release further says Mr Moumakwa has most recently been serving as managing director of Petro Lilac, a private bulk supplier of petroleum products.
From 2007 to 2015, he served as a financial advisor to the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, during which time he acted as the principal transaction advisor on the financing of several large scale projects.
From 2004 to 2007, he was the elected Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North constituency, during which time he played a leading role as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The release further says Mr Moumakwa also worked for Botswana Meat Commission, Kwena Concrete Products and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning before becoming the University of Botswana financial manager. He has also served as a trustee of the Debswana Pension Fund.
The release says throughout his career, Mr Moumakwa has demonstrated expertise in arranging both long-term limited recourse and non-recourse financing to create aggressive but achievable capital structures for various projects.
Mr Moumakwa qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2002, through the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
He graduated from the University of Botswana in 1988 with a BA in Public Administration and Accounting.
PEEPA was established in 2001 as the agency responsible for advising government on privatisation strategies as well as the implementation of privatisation of public enterprises, which can include their commercialisation, restructuring, outsourcing of responsibilities to the private sector and divestiture interventions.
