Lions seek redemption

23 Jan 2018

Gilport Lions will attempt to end a poor run of eight defeats and a draw from their last nine league matches when they lock horns with Black Forest in a midweek BTC Premiership encounter at Molepolole Sports Complex today (kick-off 5pm).

Lions have experienced a torrid time on and off the field in this campaign. After losing seven of their opening nine league matches most of their senior players terminated contracts with the club over unpaid dues.

This forced the cash-strapped club to register a group of inexperienced players from lower division sides earlier this month.

However, that intervention has proven not to be enough so far as the team continued to be a punching bag for opponents.

They have lost all three matches they have played so far in 2018 against Sankoyo Bush Bucks (1-2), Extension Gunners (0-4) and Township Rollers (1-2).

They currently prop the BTC Premiership table with a meagre four points and need to start collecting points urgently if they entertain hopes of avoiding relegation at the end of the campaign.

Forest on the other hand will be aiming to continue their solid form which saw them secure two victories and four stalemates from their last six matches.

Their two strikers, Zebron Njobvu and Molaodi Tlhalefang, are capable of inflicting further damage on the Lions.

Ndlovu recently scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 thrashing of Security Systems while Tlhalefang has hit five goals so far this season.

In another BTC Premiership encounter, second placed Jwaneng Galaxy will entertain Sharps Shooting Stars at the Galaxy Stadium today (kick-off 5pm) ENDS
