Morupule Wonderers received sponsorship to the tune of P52 000 from Palapye -based advertising agency Massive Brands.

The sponsorship entails P10 000 cash and a full page slot worth P3500 for Morupule Wonderers to advertise for a period of 12 months freely.

Handing over the sponsorship at Morupule Coal Mine on Tuesday, Massive Brands managing director Gorata Difongo said Massive Brands intended to support Morupule Wanderers until the team met its financial needs.

He said the contribution will also create opportunities that will help Magala Boys achieve their goal adding that it will also present opportunities to Palapye community and surrounding villages.

Difongo further said the sponsorship was also part of the company’s corporate values to help the government create employment and opportunities for citizens, adding that the sponsorship will not only assist the team financially but will also create opportunities for Morupule Wanderers to move forward.

Receiving the sponsorship, MCM chief public relations officer and Morupule Wanderers patron Ernest Phiri acknowledged sponsorship from Massive Brands.

He said the sponsorship will help the team achieve its dream of qualifying to play in the lucrative premier league in 2019.

Phiri also applauded companies for coming forth to play a role in developing sports in the country.

He said though the team was mainly financed by MCM, the intention was for the team to diversify its source of income.

“We want the team to sit down and strategies on how to grow the little that we give them,” he said.

He also emphasised on discipline saying that the team should always show  a sense of discipline in their players and supporters adding that bad reputation affected the mine, the community and stakeholders.

Phiri added that a winning team needed a good coach as such the team was still scouting to attract the best coach.

For his part Morupule Wanderers chairperson Nelson Kgosipheko said the advertisement slot allocated by Massive Advertising will go a long way to market the team to attract more followers and players as well as more sponsorship.

He also thanked Massive Advertising for the sponsorship, urging other local companies to come forth and support local football teams. ENDS
