GunnersBDF XI share spoils

BDF XI scored a last gasp equaliser to share a point each with visiting Extension Gunners in a lukewarm BTC Premiership match on Sunday afternoon.
Buoyed by their 4-nil victory against struggling Gilport Lions in a mid week fixture Gunners came into the match a hungrier lot and made their intentions clear from the first whistle.
Indecisiveness in front of goal denied the Lobatse side to grab an early lead against the home side. However the marauding Peleng giants were quickest off the blocks and applied some good early pressure on the Matebele defence.
BDF XI first real chance came as a result of Gunners’ defensive error when Leteng Legopelo was adjudged to have illegally stopped Mcini Sibanda just on the edge of the box. Katlego Mbise in Gunners’ last line of defence averted the danger by coolly collecting the free kick.
As the first half drew closer to the end an error between Michael James and his defensive line gifted Gunners winger Thabo Metlhayotlhe a chance to react quickly and tap inside an empty net to break the ice and close proceedings of the first 45minutes.
Despite an impressive first half showing Gunners were pegged back by the home side five minutes after the break.
However Gunners mentor Tumie Duicker rang a couple of technical switches and the visitors soon pressed forward for an insurance goal. With time running for Matebele to find an equaliser Gunners conceded a corner deep into the second half.
A deflected clearance from the resultant corner fell to the path of Phenyo Serameng whose well taken shot ricocheted the top left net to level matters. The draw leaves Gunners closing the top eight bracket with 21 points while BDF XI second consecutive draw pushes them to the sixth spot.ENDS
