Masisi calls for action against street lights vandalism
16 Jan 2018
Vice President, also MP for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has called for stringent bye-laws to protect street-lights against vandalism.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Pitseng on January 15, Mr Masisi challenged relevant authorities to come up with bye-laws that would protect street-lights and other developments against vandalism.
He noted that it was expensive for the government to replace such destroyed property. Mr Masisi said stringent measures should be taken against reckless drivers who hit street-lights after indulging in alcohol.
He challenged relevant authorities to expedite solar energy illumination in the village instead of waiting for March 7, 2018, the date set for erection of poles. He noted that the gap between January and March needed to be closed.
He however said the project would provide employment for eight people that would be erecting street lights poles in the village. The Vice President also toured Pitseng Primary School to get first-hand information on the condition of the facility.
During the tour, he said education research was critical to developing education and improving performance in schools. Workshops and exchange programmes also play a critical role in capacitating teachers, he added.
Mr Masisi also encouraged Batswana to invest in education business noting that foreigners dominated ownership of private schools. Mr Masisi encouraged pupils to work hard to be better citizens of tomorrow and implored them to focus and aim high.
Meanwhile, the Vice President handed out sweets to residents, including the children. ENDS
