BDP to hold memorial service for Davids
16 Jan 2018
The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) will tomorrow hold a memorial service for their departed Member of Parliament for Mochudi East Mr Isaac Davids.
Speaking during a visit to pass a message of condolences to the Davids family on Monday, the Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi who is also BDP chairperson said the family had agreed to the suggestion for a memorial by the party.
He said they were still in shock at the departure of Mr Davids and they were still asking themselves many questions as to how people could undertake ‘such a heinous’ act which led to the death of the legislature.
Mr Masisi further said even though they did not know what really happened, they had observed a certain trend where farm workers carried out ‘these evil acts’ especially foreigners acting in conjunction with some Batswana.
He said government had observed this and appropriate action would be taken, adding that he was happy that Batswana did not take the law into their own hands to bring the culprits to justice.
The Vice President said if a similar incident had taken place in other countries “we would be telling a different story because they will not take the matter lightly”.
Mr Masisi comforted the family and asked them to be strong during this trying time knowing that they were not alone as they have the support of the nation.
He said they too were in pain especially that he died in a way unexpected and the way it happened pained the most. Mr Masisi asked the investigators to carry out a full investigation on the incident so that justice will prevail at the end.
He asked the brother to Davids, Mr William Davids to take care of the family as most responsibilities will lie with him as the only man in the house.
Kgosi Bana Sekai thanked the Vice President for conveying his message of condolences adding that they were also lost for words at what happened.
He said this showed that no one was safe anymore therefore requesting government to strengthen the law especially against farm workers who threatened their employers.
Mr William Davids, brother to the deceased, announced that the funeral will be on Saturday in Mochudi. ENDS
