Internal roads education facilities priority projects
15 Jan 2018
Mahalapye East constituents have been informed that paving of internal gravel roads with interlocking bricks and improvement of educational facilities are the main projects of focus. More than P5 million will be used to pave internal roads at Boseja and
Flowertown wards in Mahalapye and Pallaroad under the current financial year.
Addressing a kgotla meeting recently, local government and rural development assistant minister, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso stated that roads paved with interlocking bricks would have a longer lifespan than gravelling, which requires constant maintenance.
Ms Tshireletso further appealed to Village Development Committees (VDC) to continue with their planned projects as the constituency development fund would not cater for them.
She further appealed to the community to consider projects that would be cost effective, adding that day care centre projects were not suitable as the VDC would incur more costs after construction in terms of salaries for teachers and other running expenses.
Other projects approved under constituency funding included expansion of electricity network at Makwate and Mookane at the cost of P1 million per village.
She however added that since some of the projects would not be completed through the allocated funds under the current financial year, they would be catered for under the 2018/19 financial year.
Still under constituency funding, seven destitute housing worth P700 000 had been approved for construction under the current financial year. At Xhosa I ward in Mahalapye, P800 000 will be spent on the erection of streetlights and tower lights.
Meanwhile, she further revealed that funds disbursed through Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP III) would focus on primary school back log eradication projects. Nine primary schools in her constituency would be maintained.
The funds, she added would also cater for construction of classrooms and teachers’ houses across the constituency.
Ms Tshireletso said P260 000 would be used for renovating two classroom blocks at Mmaphashalala while P90 000 would maintain an LA2 house, school toilets and classroom block at Mmuabui Primary School at Makwate and Shakwe Primary School.
She further appealed to the community to take advantage of the available government housing scheme like Self Help Housing Agency to improve their accommodation facilities. ENDS
