Maele commends Malaka performance
15 Jan 2018
Member of Parliament for Lerala/Maunatlala Mr Prince Maele, has commended Malaka Primary School for outstanding performance in the just released Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Malaka on January 8, Mr Maele said Malaka Primary School is one of the top five schools that performed well in the 2017 PSLE.
The top five schools are Moeng, Gootau, Malaka, Seolwane and Kukujwe primary schools which scored 100, 93.8, 92.9, 92.1 and 85.1 per cent respectively.
He said he will continue supporting schools that perform outstandingly in his constituency, having set a target of 80 per cent for schools.
Mr Maele who is also the Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services urged schools in his constituency which did not reach the 80 per cent target to benchmark with the top five schools to enable them to improve their academic results.
He also commended Malaka community for joining hands with teachers to produce good performing students. He said good results at Malaka Primary School indicate a good working relationship between teachers and parents.
He urged the school to share their success story with the neighbouring Lecheng Primary School which scored only 67.8 per cent. Mr Maele also informed residents of Malaka and Lecheng villages about the competition and the BDF bills.
He said the Competition bill sought to establish the Competition Authority under the new name of Competition and Consumer Authority and establish a competition and consumer tribunal.
He said the bill also provides for the protection of the interests of consumers by means of investigation, prohibition and control of unfair business practices.
Regarding the BDF bill, he said the legislation sought to increase the retirement age for members of the BDF to 60 years, after it was discovered that the BDF members retired early.
He said the bill also introduced improvements to the military justice system by introducing the offices of the judge advocate general and the director of military prosecutions.
This new provision ushers in a system where the commander would no longer be an investigator and a judge in cases against members of the defence force.
He said provisions are revised to comprehensively address the range of disciplinary contraventions which include fraternisation, sexual harassment, adultery and plagiarism.
Residents of the two villages raised concern over land board’s reluctance to allocate plots in their respective areas. Mr Maele informed them that the demand for land in Palapye and surrounding villlages is very high hence the waiting lists.
The residents also thanked the outgoing President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for leading this country with peace and harmony just like his predecessors.
They thanked him for introducing programmes such as poverty eradication and ISPAAD to improve the lives of the people for the better.
They said ISPAAD in particular benefited them greatly. ENDS
