Khama appreciates feedback

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appreciated feedback on the outcomes of poverty eradication programmes from Maralaleng residents.


President Khama made the comment following Kgosi David Megano in his welcome remarks in which he commended government for the rolledout programmes meant to uplift the lives of the less privileged.


The President was addressing residents of Maralaleng during a mini kgotla meeting to bid them farewell on December 16.President Khama told residents that governmnet was committed to improve the livelohoods of Batswana and t empower them to be self-reliant to reduce destituion.


He further  informed them that his term was coming to an end, but that would not stop him from serving the interests of Batswana.
“I vouch to offer support and guidance whenever the need arises,” he said.


Earlier in his welcome remarks, Kgosi David Megano lauded President Khama for his visit to their village to get first hand information regarding their welfare.


Kgosi Megano said through his visionary leadership, the President ensured that there was continuity of developments with the little that government had.


In addition, Kgosi Megano applauded the President for several roles that entailed the review of Bogosi Act, promotion of culture as well as constituency sport tournaments.


Village Development Committe chairperson, Ms Cecilia Kgositlou also shared the sentiments with Kgosi Megano on the positive outcomes of governmnet programmes  and the swift flow of developments in the village.


She noted that 72 beneficiaries had been enrolled for Ipelegeng and proposed for the increase in their quota in the next financial year.
She also stated that they got nine destitute houses while three were still under construction, adding that the numbers would ultimately reduce destitituion in the village.


Meanwhile, she decried shortasge of accommodation for civil servants and proposed for the upgrading of the clinic and the provision of   a qualified midwife.


In his repsonce, President Khama said public officers’ accommodation was catered for under the ongoing Economic Stimulus Programme, which is executed in phases.He also noted that P138 million had been issued  for the upgrading of clinics across the country.


Meanwhile, President Khama donated 20 chairs, 10 bibles, soccer kit and blankets to the elderly and destitute persons.


Assistant Minister of Local Governmnet and Rural Development also area MP, Mr Frans Van der Westhuizen lauded President Khama for his immense love for citizens and most importantly, the less priviledged.


Mr Van der Westhuizen said President Khama was a man of his own league as no one could beat him at being conversant with cross cutting issues in different communities across the entire country, which he said made him an incomparable leader.


He further applauded him for his true patriotic spirit that he displayed by encouraging the wearing of national colours on Fridays. ENDS
