Govt committed to BHC purchase scheme implementation
10 Jul 2013
Government is still committed to the implementation of a decision reached in 2009 to introduce installment purchase scheme at Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC).
Answering a question in Parliament from the MP for Gaborone South, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake said the scheme was approved in principle pending positive developments in the performance of the national economy.
He said the scheme required a seed capital of P607 million over the first three years of the programme.
Minister Mokalake said the funding situation for the remainder of NDP 10 did not cater for implementation of this initiative, as this was dependent on a positive performance of the economy.
MP Molatlhegi had asked the minister when the BHC would commence the installment purchase scheme and to state the total amount required to start the scheme and whether government was still committed to funding this initiative during NDP 10. Ends
