Some 2015 judgements pending
12 Dec 2017
Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says some Industrial Court Judges have not delivered judgments for cases heard in 2015. Mr Mabeo told Parliament on Monday that by the end of last month, the Industrial Court had 21 pending cases from 2015.
He pointed that all the cases were for the Gaborone branch of Industrial Court.
He explained that while the Industrial Court finds it appropriate to set a reasonable time for judgment delivery, there was currently no statutory time line, but judges were expected to deliver judgments within a reasonable time.
“My ministry finds these performance levels worrying as justice delayed is justice denied. We are therefore putting in place measure to address case disposal at the Industrial Court including training of Judges in judicial case management,” Mr Mabeo explained.
Gabane-Mmankgodi MP Mr Major General Pius Mokgware had asked if the minister was aware that some Industrial Court Judges had not delivered judgments from cases that were heard in 2015. BOPA
