Create healthy environment for better results

Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology (OCAAT) and the AFDA school of motion college’s staff and students were encouraged to create a healthy working environment for better results.
A business development manager at Liberty Life, Ms Gorata Kewakae said this during a wellness day held under the theme: 'A healthy mind within a healthy body, make fitness your priority, at Oodi recently.'
Ms Kewakae emphasised the importance of wellness days as “it creates a better working environment and shows that management cares about the wellbeing of their staff.”
She also encouraged staff members to regularly visit health care facilities to check and screen for non-communicable diseases such as sugar diabetes and high blood pressure so that they could get assistance in time.
Ms Kewakae also advised students to avoid alcohol and drugs and to instead focus on their studies and live their dreams.
She applauded the college’s management in hosting the event, saying it showed that they wanted to ensure the right to a healthy life was adhered to.
In her welcome remarks, the head of OCAAT, Ms Maggie Khumalo said a healthy mind made a healthy body which fitted with the day’s theme.
She also said the wellness day was held to promote healthy living. Ms Khumalo explained that for an organisation to attain better results it should start with promoting healthy living in a working environment.
She also said she valued her staff and students as their health was their success.
“It is your health which brings success to this school” she said.
Outlining the day’s objectives, Mr Tuelo Mohapi said the wellness day was aimed at sensitising people on the importance of healthy living.
Mr Mohapi also said the day was organised to improve the physical and emotional health of workers so that they could provide services to clients.
He encouraged the staff to make fitness their priority and to fight communicable diseases such as obesity and high blood pressure.
“Our responsibility is to create a healthy working environment to produce better results,” he added.
Mr Mohapi challenged his workmates to be more health conscious and to be responsible for their health, saying a healthy body and mind started with them.
Author and entrepreneur, Mr Sibusiso Kgosikhumo said a healthy mind within a healthy body started with self-understanding.
Mr Kgosikhumo shared with the staff tips on how to be self-understanding. He said they should believe in themselves and go for what they want.
He encouraged staff and students to always have a positive mind because what they think could change their lifestyle. ENDS
