Welldone Ghanzi Land Board - Malatsi

11 Dec 2017

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Bareng Malatsi says Ghanzi Land Board has risen to the occasion in delivering their mandate.

Speaking at the Ghanzi Land Board annual performance awards ceremony on December 8, Mr Malatsi noted that land administration could be very emotional as there is rarely consensus on what to be done to bring improvements.

In fact, he said, any improvements may be opposed by some sections of the community, depending on the interest they want to derive, saying that some may want to maximise land while some may just want land without developing it.

“We have men and women here at Ghanzi land board who are motivated to rise above these considerations and do the best for their district,” he stated.

Doing the best, he said may often mean attracting criticism from those sections of the community that may be affected by various initiatives at that point. Nonetheless, he said ultimate guiding principle should be to achieve desired goal of socio-economic development of the country.

Mr Malatsi said Ghanzi Land Board had been consistently doing well on performance management of land related issues, attributing such to sound leadership, team work and collaboration with other stakeholders.

Their good performance, which he said mirrored spirit of oneness in delivering their mandate made them win even annual ministerial awards.

Also, he said Ghanzi Land Board had done well with the Land Administration Procedures Capacity and Systems (LAPCAS) project as they had surveyed the targeted 20 749 plots, 11 650 of which had already been approved.

He said successful organisations did well in three areas of strategy, finance and human resource management.

Mr Malatsi challenged his audience to concentrate and reflect on global challenges, some of which are climate change manifesting in persistent drought, global food insecurity, rapid population expansion, uncontrolled urban migration and volatile world commodity prices.

“We should leverage in our strength to create a winning situation”

For her part, Ghanzi Land Board chairperson, Ms Tiny Sabone attributed their success to being customer oriented. ENDS
