Butale begins cycle challenge Saturday
10 Dec 2017
Biggie Butale Charity Foundation will host a cycle challenge with the intention of raising P20 million towards construction of computer laboratories for 32 schools in his constituency.
Founder of the foundation, Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry and Tati West legislator, Biggie Butale said at a press briefing in Gaborone on December 8, that the four-day cycling challenge of 550 kilometres, will start in Masunga on December 16 and end in Gaborone on December 20.
“We found it fit to start off by giving out computers because we believe that’s where the world is heading; to be a technology based economy.
The Biggie Butale Charity challenge, he said was started to help realise the dream of having a technology-based society and would be spread to other districts.
He further said there would be stopover in Francistown, Serule, Palapye, Mahalapye, Pilane and Gaborone to allow cyclists time to rest and sleep.
Butale said they would also try to reach the P20 million target through an sms competition where participants would stand a chance to win either P10 000, P20 000 or a car during the final draw.
He further appealed to the business community and members of the public to help raise the needed funds by registering and pledging support of any kind.
He said he was happy to embark on the challenge as part of the Adopt-A-School initiative.
“Pedalling for a purpose is often much more difficult and time consuming than most people realise, yet ultimately, many cyclists including myself, remember not the hardwork but the many great reasons for cycling, which in this case is the Tati West schools, the solidarity and friendships formed on an organised group ride or individual ride, the sense of pride in completing an independent tour for charity,” he said.
Among those who will join Butale from the start of the race are Kgosi Maruje III of Masunga, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Nonofo Molefhi, while ministers of Basic Education, Dr Unity Dow and Health and Wellness, Dorcas Makgato will join along the way. ENDS
