Ownership of plots rest with government

There are six open spaces owned by government and one belonged to Gaborone City Council (GCC), Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has said.

They include plot 56018, 56147, 56273, 56086, 56128 and 55841 for  government, while plot 54409 was owned by GCC.

Responding to a question in Parliament from Gaborone North Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Haskins Nkaigwa, Mr Moipisi said the total size of the open spaces referred to added up to 8 954 square metres and not 20 hectares, adding that the ownership of the plots still rested with government and they currently remained undeveloped.

“The perimeter wall has been constructed by Zimmal (Pty) Ltd, upon the granting of a planning permission thereto by GCC,” he said.

Mr Nkaigwa had asked the minister to update Parliament on the current status of open spaces for plots 56018, 56147, 54409, 56273, 56128, 56086 and 55841 next to Motswedi Junior Secondary

School, Botlhale Primary School, Tapologo Estates and Ledumang Senior Secondary School, which were reported to be owned by government.

Gaborone North MP also wanted to know who put up a screen wall in such plots and with whose authority and the status of such plots, which amounted to over 20 hectares of land. ENDS
