Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi says plans are underway to construct water pipeline from Ntimbale Dam Water Resource (from Marapong Junction) to supply Kutamogoree, Mosetse and Dukwi Villages.

Responding to a question in Parliament recently, Mr Moipisi said the construction of the pipeline would reduce the demand on the Dukwi wellfields and also enable construction of another pipeline from Dukwi Waterworks to Nata as well as the associated upgrading needs at Nata and the nearby villages of Maposa and Manxotai.

He said Nata-Gweta constituency was supplied mainly from Dukwi Wellfields, which feeds Nata, Gweta, Sowa, Maposa and Manxotai while the rest of the constituency was supplied from local boreholes, which the quality of water tests indicate acceptable quality in most of the villages.

Mr Moipisi however said tests from Tsokotshaa and Sepako indicated slightly elevated levels of chloride, which might lead to salty taste in the water.

The assistant minister noted that the ministry was not aware of any mining activities that were affecting the underground water at Dukwi wellfields.

He said that the ministry had a monthly water level monitoring programme for Dukwi wellfields borehole and based on the water level monitoring data collected, results did not indicate any significant drop in water levels.

Mr Moipisi said recent analysis of water quality from the four production boreholes showed that the quality was generally within the BOS 32:2015 compliance standard,  although they noted that sodium was slightly elevated as an exception,.

He said they believed that  it was  as a result of saline intrusion from below.

MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he would consider connecting Nata-Gweta villages to Ntimbale and Shashe Dams.

Also, he asked the minister if he was aware that water in the constituency was salty and that Mowana Mining activities affected underground water at Dukwi wellfields. ENDS
