Official applauds women ministry

10 Dec 2017

Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) Women Ministries Fellowship has been applauded for devoting time to spend with people living with disabilities.

That was said by Mr Stephen Moreki, a Social and Community Development official from Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) during a lunch hosted by SDA Women Ministry for people living with disability on December 8 in Kanye.

The women ministry also used the event to shower a total of 80 people living with disability with presents.

“Not only does the less privileged in the society draw courage from fellowships such as this one, the gesture makes them feel much appreciated,” he said.

Mr Moreki therefore commended Women Ministries Fellowship for thinking about people living with disability and doing something to address their needs; something he said was what followers of Christ ought to be doing.

He was however concerned that Southern District populace was not coming forth in terms of registration of people living with disabilities.

The current number of beneficiaries registered by the council, according to him, does not reflect the true picture of such people across the district.

During his opening speech on November 27, Southern District chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso alluded to the fact that a total of 751 people with disabilities were benefitting from available programmes.

Pastor Benza Benda of SDA church in Kanye also agreed with Mr Moreki that the women ministry was simply following the ministry of Jesus Christ whose ministry was predominantly about turning around the lives of the less privileged members of the society.

“Christ was against the proud who cared less about the things of God,” he said.

He said absolving the blame from anybody that disability was not anyone’s fault, but for the name of the Lord to be glorified through gestures such as the one by the women ministry.

Moreover, Pastor Benda stated that whether or not one is disabled, all people belong to God.

Councillor for Marapalalo ward, Mr Kabelo Lemme assured the church that the council was equally concerned about the plight of people living with disability.

He was particularly worried by slow registration of people living with disability throughout the district; something he stated did not augur well with council’s plan to empower such people.

The leader of Women Ministries Fellowship, Ms Susan Williams said the gesture by Kanye women ministry was true to the motto Love to Care and Serve.

“I am proud today that women ministry in Kanye are living our motto and implementing the Jesus Christ method of reaching out to the needy,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Isaac Nkganetsang was happy with the kind of support he and fellow people living with disabilities received from the church.

“It is not the first time we are receiving gifts from this church.

There had been similar events in the past where the church demonstrated its compassion to us,” he said. ENDS
