Chinese chamber donates

10 Dec 2017

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Francistown has donated 200 gift hampers worth P45 000 to orphans in the city.

The gift hampers included among others a school bag, mathematical instruments, water bottle as well as toothpaste and tooth brush.

Speaking at the occasion on December 8, Francistown city deputy Mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo appreciated efforts of the business communities who were able to give back to the communities where they run their businesses.

Mr Radisigo explained that government alone could not afford to meet every citizen’s need urging other business entities to emulate the good gesture.

“Indeed Christmas came early for our children. We are hopeful that the school bags and stationary hampers that are being donated today will help ease their educational journey,” he said.

Giving an overview of the initiative, the Political Councillor for the Chinese Embassy, Mr Wang Bangfu emphasised that the city of Francistown was now home to many Chinese businessmen.

He said they had made the city their home and had been able to make a living and prosper within the Francistown community.

“I am confident that with the joint efforts of both Botswana and China, we can take this solid friendship further with tangible benefits for both parties,” he added

For his part, the Chinese Chamber of Commerceacting chairperson in Francistown, Mr Steven Zhu explained that the Chinese Chamber of Commerce was a non-profit organisation working towards helping locals in need of assistance as well as the Chinese community in Botswana.

“The people and government of Botswana have helped us do business here and this makes us one big happy family,” he said

He noted that when aid was offered, money was not the most important aspect; but in the case of such donations, the future of recipients and them acquiring knowledge and education was of utmost importance. ENDS
