Association gives Ralekgetho primary boost
10 Dec 2017
Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has thanked the Kiron Care Association of Botswana (KCAB) for pledging to build a turn-key classroom and administration block at Ralekgetho Primary School.
Speaking at a ground breaking ceremony at Ralekgetho recently, Mr Masisi said the gesture was a shot in the arm for the school which has seen a slump in performance for the past few years.
He urged the school management and stakeholders to regard the donation as a challenge to work together and turn the situation around as an appreciation to the donors.
He said the pledge was inspired by love and not a show of affluence.
Vice President Masisi, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, congratulated the school for a slight improvement in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) this year.
The school has achieved a 50 per cent pass rate, which is a 30 per cent increase from the 20 per cent registered last year.
Mr Masisi also urged parents to motivate learners to take education seriously and become the best they could be in life.
He described the pledge as a practical demonstration of the beauty of diversity, adding that it was important for Batswana to appreciate and live peacefully with people from other cultures and nations.
He added that Batswana were inherently accommodative and implored residents to extend their warmth to the contractors who were from India, China and Bangladesh.
He said doing so could motivate more investors to set up in the country and create employment opportunities for many.
He noted that 16 locals have been engaged to do the project which would be delivered by April next year.
For his part, KCAB chairperson, Mr Didarul Bhuiyan said the donation, worth over P800 000, was inspired by the fact that education was the backbone of any nation.
He said children should be encouraged to focus on their studies in order to improve the economy of the nation in the long term.
Mr Bhuiyan said his association believed in helping Batswana where there was a need and encouraged other capable citizens to take a cue.
He also promised to deliver the project by April next year.
Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso vowed that his council would afford the contractors support to ensure they completed the structures on time.
He also wished the donors among them China Jiangsu International, Fours Cash and Carry, Acetone Holdings, Master Print, Master Chems, Northern Fixtures and Granite Masters luck in their future endeavours so they could touch more lives. ENDS
