Judges to resume duty next year
07 Dec 2017
All four judges who apologised to President Lt Gen.Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama will resume duty on January 1, 2018, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe has said.
Mr Kwerepe told Parliament that one of the commitments the judges made was that they would arrange repayment of the housing allowance with the registrar of the high court.
He further said the settlement made with the judges did not envisage the withdrawal of the investigation relating to the receipt of the housing allowance.
Mr Kwerepe further said that the executive was not precluded by law from binding the police through its decisions but in this matter no attempt was made to bind the Botswana Police Service.
He was answering a question in parliament by Selebi Phikwe West legislator, Mr Dithapelo Koorapetse who asked the minister to update Parliament on the pardoning of the four suspended judges by the President.
He also wanted to know whether the settlement envisages withdrawal of investigation and to know on what authority the executive bind the Botswana Police Service to the negotiations between itself and the judges. ENDS
