416 beneficiaries in Selebi Phikwe

06 Dec 2017

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe  has informed Parliament that there are  416 beneficiaries in Selebi Phikwe with 113 beneficiaries from  Selebi Phikwe West while 303 from Selebi Phikwe East.

Mr Kwerepe said the beneficiaries had been given packages from different categories, stating that they have been packaged in the different categories such as  backyard gardens, beekeeping, food packaging, jam and pickles and laundry to name but a few.

He also said 29 projects were successful while 302 were operational and still being evaluated.

The assistant minister said  the difference in numbers of beneficiaries between the two constituencies was due to the fact that beneficiaries who qualified in both constituencies were on the basis of the eligibility criteria.

Moreover, he noted that Selebi Phikwe East was a low income area and therefore the levels of poverty were high compared to Selibe Phikwe West.

The Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse  had asked the minister to state the number of beneficiaries and types of benefits of the poverty eradication programme packages in Selebi Phikwe constituencies and to account for the differences in number of beneficiaries between the two areas.

Mr Keorapetse also asked Mr Kwerepe to state the successful projects and the number of beneficiaries who have graduated from poverty as a result. ENDS
