09 Jul 2013
Bank of Botswana does not collect or maintain banking data based on constituencies or places of work of bank employees, the Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Vincent Seretse has said.
The minister nonetheless said information from banks states that there are about 1 793 bank customers in Kgalagadi North and South constituencies. Mr Seretse said Barclays Bank and BancABC do not have segmentation of customers for Kgalagadi South and North constituencies, but each have a total of 416 and 485 customers respectively.
Bank Gaborone has 57 customers and 48 customers in Kgalagadi South and North respectively while Botswana Savings Bank has 460 and 327 customers in Kgalagadi South and North respectively. Information from Standard Chartered Bank and First National Bank was not available.
The assistant minister said civil servants in the Kgalagadi constituencies have accounts with most banks and can either access their accounts though Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), mobile money or nearest bank branches.
Mr Seretse was responding to a question from Kgalagadi South MP John Toto who wanted the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to state the number of government employees in the two constituencies who have bank accounts with the six banks.ENDS
