Mzwinila urges learners to take charge of their lives
04 Dec 2017
Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila has encouraged students of Kgari Sechele II Senior Secondary School to take full responsibility of their lives.
Known for notorious matters such as vandalism and poor academic performance by students, the school management decided to introduce the annual boot camp for its learners to help address such matters.
Officiating at the launch of the 2017 Boot camp, Mr Mzwinila informed the learners that they were the architects of their own lives.
He advised them to do everything in their powers to avoid making decisions or choices that would deter them from being successful in what they wanted to achieve with their lives.
To the learners, he noted that the boot camp was aimed at training and empowering them to be well equipped in all aspects of life.
“After this boot camp every learner should be in a position to take full responsibility of their lives, be in a position to sacrifice some of the things that you wanted to do with the things that you really need to do.
Also, after the two weeks elapse all eyes will be on all of you to see if you are able to confront the challenges you are facing both as a student and as a youth,” he said.
He advised them to stay away from social ills such as use of drugs and alcohol, bad behaviour, bad discipline as they had the power to destroy one’s life.
“You will have enough time in the future to have fun as you please, but at this age it is time for educating yourselves and making your parents proud,” he said.
He further encouraged the Form Four students to cultivate team spirit, unite and have the same fighting force that will eliminate the social ills so as to achieve their individual goals.
He also encouraged them to make a good investment in their lives by portraying good behaviour at all times.
Parents were also challenged to be involved in their children’s lives and monitor their activities.
For his part, the Sschool head, Mr Lapologang Kolagano stated that this year’s boot camp was aimed at creating career opportunities for leaners so that they are in a position to identify and explore their talents.
He also revealed that one of their objectives was to equip students with good work ethics and entrepreneurial skills for life after school.
“We also want to make sure that the learners take part in community services and become patriotic at the same time having the spirit of self-acceptance.
Issues of zero tolerance of corruption will also be imparted on the learners since they are the future of this country” Mr Kolagano said.
He also expressed disappointment at some of the parents who refused to release their children to become part of the boot camp.
He stated that 600 students signed up for the boot camp instead of the 800.
He called for everyone who has partnered with the school to have joint responsibility and make sure that the boot camp becomes a success.ENDS
