Kweneng District abattoir project takes shape
04 Dec 2017
The long awaited medium throughput abattoir project for Kweneng District is taking shape after a four hector plot along Molepolole/Letlhakeng road was secured.
Officially opening the Kweneng District full council meeting recently, the council chairperson Mr Jeffrey Sibisibi, said the project was among those considered for the district while the Kweneng Land board was currently working on logistics of advertising the plot.
He said they will also make investigations to establish whether the demarcated plot was free from allocation.“Once completed, the abattoir will contribute significantly in the local economic development in the district as it would act as a catalyst for valuable addition to the livestock sub-sector,” said Mr Sibisibi.
The council chairperson also briefed the council about the delayed completion of the dispute over the Molepolole Bus Terminus and Associated Works as it was taking longer than anticipated.
The delayed progress in reaching finalisation of the matter he said had impacted negatively on the project physical progress as it had reached defects liability period without being attended to due to the pending court verdict.
The council also learnt about the recent fire outbreak at Gamodubu Landfill that lasted for almost a month with no damages reported except an estimated P5 000 of burnt tyres.
“Investigations by the police and Rural Metro Emergency are underway to establish the cause of fire. The results will be important to inform our planning and the way we have been managing our landfill,” he said.
He bemoaned the alarming rate at which youth aged around 16 years in Molepolole and Thamaga were contributing to the high rate of teenage delinquency causing instability to community.
“Statistics show that in those two villages people are raped, murdered, brutally assaulted and robbed and offices are broken into. It has to be noted that Thamaga has high rate of violent and intrusive crime especially home invasions,” he said.
He thus challenged the village leadership and communities at large to act promptly against the state of affairs that mostly affect public officers who leave their valuables unattended during festive.
Mr Sibisibi noted with concern the declining school academic performance that prompted the regional education office to come up with strategies of improving performance by ensuring constant monitoring and evaluation by school management.
He said there were indications of a high number of mushrooming day care centres particularly in the Mogoditshane area which operated illegally without abiding to the requirements of the Children’s Act of 2009 adding that “these anomalies pose danger to children as some of these centres do not meet requirements.”
On issues of housing, the council chairperson said the district was putting up 112 houses under the current financial year in different villages and settlements.
“These units will benefit or accommodate 690 beneficiaries and restore dignity. Despite all the three sub districts being at different stages of implementation, it is envisaged that all these houses will be completed at the end of this financial year,” he said.
Kweneng District council according to Mr Sibisibi had reported an impressive income collection of revenue of P14.2 million against the projected P12.3 million translating to P115.9 per cent that he said has surpassed the projected revenue collection due to collection of areas under sanitation vote.
The council chairperson further stated that in an attempt to help address limited housing finance for low income residents in the district, a total of P3.1 million was disbursed towards arresting the situation by the Land Management and Water and Sanitation Services ministry to the three sub district to benefit 54 eligible individuals.
Meanwhile the district is challenged by a high number of defaulters against Village Development Committees that amount to over P56 000.
He called on perpetrators to come forth before stern action could be taken against them. ENDS
