Support locals-Kgosi Tsimane

04 Dec 2017

Balete deputy chief, Kgosi Tsimane Mokgosi has pleaded with Gamalete community to support local businesses. He said this recently at the graduation and prize giving of KellyTodds Primary English Medium School in Ramotswa, owned by a local resident.

The Balete deputy chief regretted that many parents continued to have their children ferried to and from Gaborone on daily basis, leaving behind a locally owned private school.
He said the school due to its newness was likely to experience teething problems but such could be addressed through community support.

“As such, failure to support local businesses means that they remain behind,” he said adding that KellyTodds Primary English Medium School came about when the only English medium school in Ramotswa closed instantly leaving many parents stranded.

He said KellyTodds Primary English Medium School came to their rescue and stated that students went as far as Thamagavillage for schooling.

South East District chief education officer Ms Roseline Serumola called for interaction between public and private school.

Ms Serumola said there were many things that the two establishments could learn from each other for the development of leaners.

She stated that modern education need the involvement of all and further called on teachers parents and students join hands to ensure that students performed better.

Ms Serumola noted that mostly, parents follow up on their children at pre-schools, primary schools but such motive fades away at junior, secondary and tertiary levels.

“You have to be active at all levels, be it at primary, junior, secondary and tertiary,” Ms Serumola advised.

She observed that incidents of indiscipline at upper levels could be brought about by lack of parental support.

Also, she pleaded with the Ramotswa community to support Kagiso Senior Secondary school as she stated that many parents preferred to have their children school in Gaborone. She noted that the trend lead to high enrolment in Gaborone while denying Kagiso Senior School an opportunity to admit students who had performed better at junior level.

Ms Serumola said if parents, teachers and students worked as a team, the school would perform better, adding that most students who remained at the school were those who would have gotten grades other than A and B.

KellyTodds Primary English Medium School graduation and press giving day was the first since the school was opened two years ago. ENDS
