Late submission delays overtime pay

03 Dec 2017

Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse says three employees at the Department of Crop Production have not been paid their overtime claims for the period between November 2016 and January 2017.

Responding to a question in Parliament on November 27, he said 110 employees of the Department of Agricultural Research had outstanding overtime from June to September 2017 and were paid in October, the combined sum of P361 487.83.

Mr Autlwetse said that the delay in payment on overtime claims at the Department of Agricultural Research was due to the depletion of overtime funds.

On the other hand, Mr Autlwetse said three employees at the Department of Crop Production have not been paid their overtime claims due to late submission of claims by the employees and inadequacy of overtime funds.

The overtime claims were only submitted in July this year having been accrued in the previous financial year, he added.

He said that the three employees at the Department of Crop Production would be paid their overtime claims in the next financial year.

MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister if he was aware that employees in the Crop Production and Agricultural Department in Sebele had not been paid their overtime and field allowances for the past eight months and if so, what was delaying the payments and when would they be paid.
