Councillors decry lack of progress on projects

Boteti Sub-district councillors have expressed dissatisfaction with lack of progress of constituency community projects.

They said all projects had failed to commence and were at zero per cent progress.

The councillors said during a sub-council meeting held in Letlhakane recently, stating that reasons advanced were not satisfactory.

Principal economic planner Ms Kenosi Batlhoki had informed the

councillors that all constituency community projects had failed to commencesincethesub-district did not have an architect.

Councillor Thomas Kgethenyane of Khumaga/Moremaoto said senior assistant council secretary should had declared a state of emergency or applied other means hiring an architect, such a headhunting.

Councillor Kgethenyane also suggested the council could have requested the services on architect from other councils.

Councillor Elijah Motsamai of Xhumo/Mmadikola said they

wanted a clear time frame for commencement of projects, noting thattenderingwasalsoastumbling block on progress of projects.

Councillor Batoli Manyuni of Tsienyane West said she was convinced that projects would be constructed and completed, saying the commencement of some projects would be a challenge since constituency development fund was a new initiative.

Councillor Koketso Seloi hailed government projects saying he was hopeful that 22 staff houses for Orapa Junior Secondary School would take place.

In response, senior assistant council secretary, Mr Onthatile Molelu said he did not have the authority to headhunt officers, as recruitment procedure had to be followed.

Mr Molelu said the sub-disrict could not get help from other sub- districts since they all had one officer.

However, he revealed that one officer had since been availed from headuarters.

The sub-district, he said could not peruse plans since it did not have a registered architect.
