Ministry replaces repairs pipes
30 Nov 2017
Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services says his ministry would as a short term measure replace/repair underground water pipes that supply water to the river villages of Malolwane, Ramonaka, Mathubudukwane, Sikwane and Mabalane to as and when problems are identified.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said it was worth noting that the only permanent solution to address the problem would be major rehabilitation which was estimated to cost at least P30million.
He said the ministry undertook mapping of existing pipeline routes that supply the river villages of the said villages in 2014.
“Due to financial constraints, my ministry is currently not able to carry out the rehabilitation exercise. I therefore cannot say with any degree of certainty as to when the pipes will be repaired or replaced,” he said.
Mr Moipisi further said notwithstanding, the water quality was continuously monitored in all 22 villages of Kgatleng district including the river villages to ensure that the water quality complies with BOS 32:2015 standard.
Member of Parliament for Mochudi East Mr Isaac Davids had asked the minister when the underground pipes delivering water to the river villages of Malolwane, Ramonaka, Mathubudukwane, Sikwane and Mabalane would be repaired given that they were rusty and the water was always dirty. BOPA
