Galeragwe urges stakeholders to support council

Boteti sub district chairman Mr Molemi Galeragwe implores all the stakeholders to continue supporting council in its endeavours to uplift people’s lives.
Speaking at the chairman’s ball recently, Mr Galeragwe said the purpose of the occasion was to acknowledge them for the efforts and achievements that they had attained in the sub district in 2017.
He also said the aim was not only to celebrate but also to network on pertinent issues that affect the sub district.
Mr Galeragwe recognised all stakeholders that have contributed positively towards social development through funding of economic empowerment project, school equipment and donations of clothes and other items.
He urged them to continue with the spirit of togetherness and thanked them for their unwavering support, singling out Lundin Foundation for the upgrading of the Letlhakane abattoir which is complete. Mr Galeragwe said as part of the national privatisation strategy, the Central District Council has taken a deliberate move to outsource the abattoir services.
He also thanked Debswana Mining Company for playing a positive role in the development of Boteti Sub District over the past years, citing that they had funded major projects worth P13 million during the 2017/18 financial year, this including the expansion of maternity wing in Letlhakane Primary Hospital, construction of additional classrooms at Seaseole Primary School and Orapa Junior Secondary School, procurement of a disability bus at Tsienyane Primary School as well as the installation of streetlights in Letlhakane which have been newly approved.
Mr Galeragwe also acknowledged government officials for their efforts in implementing government projects and programmes such as the construction of destitute houses, maintenance of government facilities, implementation of poverty eradication and ipelegeng programme.
He furthermore, urged the business community to come up with other economic activities which are geared towards addressing developmental challenges such as poverty, unemployment and dependency on a single economic sector, mining.
He said the government, through Boteti Sub District Council was implementing Local Economic Development (LED) programme.
The LED programme is an approach to development that enables the private sector, community and government to identify developmental challenges and needs, understanding resource endowments and take joint action to diversify and grow their economies.
He urged them to envision Boteti as the leading mining hub complimented by tourism and other sectors such as agriculture, particularly livestock farming.ENDS
