Lobatse says business needs discipline for it to prosper.

Kgosi Tshegofatso Setumo of Peleng in Lobatse said this on Monday at a business management workshop held for Poverty Eradication beneficiaries.

She urged the beneficiaries to exercise patience and determination in order to grow their businesses, indicating that all businesses started small and it took dedication and perseverance to get where they are today.

She urged them to persevere and not give up easily, especially when faced with challenges, adding that ‘challenges are what make a business’ and help it prosper as the owner also learns from them.

Kgosi Setumo advised the beneficiaries not to rush things in business, but rather build their empire and learn to save the little amount made as profit.

Above all, she urged and encouraged them to work hard and make their businesses sustainable for their livelihood.

Meanwhile, assistant performance improvement coordinator from Lobatse Town Council, Mr Moitheri Mohlomi advised them to consider location, market, finance, technology, labour, ethics, mentorship and expansion when they think business.

Abusiness can prosper if it is in the right location as the market will also have been considered, he said.

Mr Mohlomi said when considering market, one should know what to sell and to who and be able to package the product according to the market’s specifications.

In addition, he indicated that mentorship was vital in every business as it helps with new ideas, adding that it was important that they network with existing similar business people for idea-sharing as well as acquire advises.

He also encouraged the beneficiaries to always visit the Poverty Eradication office and ask for advice on how to run their businesses.

Further, Mr Mohlomi stressed the importance of technology in today’s business.

He said technology, especially social media, had become one of the very convenient marketing strategies for businesses today and indicated that even small businesses were not exempted from this tool.

Therefore, he encouraged beneficiaries to keep up with trends and advertise their products and services on social media. BOPA
