Remmogo preaches road safety
09 Jul 2013
Remmogo Youth Organisation and Botswana Bikers Society were, on July 6, on a campaign to raise awareness on road users as President Holidays are approaching.
Remmogo Youth Organisation, executive director, Kagiso Morebodi said the main aim of the campaign was to raise awareness and to encourage behavioural change. He said almost five people died every week in car accidents and this caused a concern.
He said this time around they worked with bikers to pull the large crowd when sending messages of road safety in different Gaborone shopping malls. The Director of Botswana Bikers Society, Bertus De Klerk said it was important for bikers to be recognised.
‘'When we are on the road, other road users turn to misjudge our speed and this sometimes cause accidents, people should be more observant as we are not that much protected than those who are driving cars,’’ he said.
The campaign was graced by many organisations including Boitekanelo College, Department of Road and Transport Services, Botswana Traffic Police, Dunlop, Scania and Ministry of Youth Sports &Culture among others who were also teaching the public about their services and importance of road safety.
Head of Public Relations of Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture Mr Christian Mmusi explained that it is important for the road safety message to reach home especially his clients who are mostly artists, enterpreneurs, athletes and young leaders.
Since January 2013, 184 people have died on road accidents compared to 154 who died last year during this period. ENDS
