Electricity supply needs upgrade
28 Nov 2017
Parliament has been informed that electricity supply to Motsumi and Ditsweletse junior secondary schools needs to be upgraded.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, Assistant Minister of Basic Education Mr Moiseraele Goya said the current power supply was 60 amp single phase as opposed to the normal 150 amp three phase supply.
As such, he said the school experienced power disruptions and sometimes would be unable to run all of its appliances.
Mr Goya further said all departments were affected but those using heavy machinery such as Design and Technology, Home Economics and the kitchen, are more dependent on supply.
“Power upgrading is in process and quotations from BPC are currently undergoing validation. We expect that a contractor will be on site before the end of February 2018,” he said.
Boteti East MP Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister whether Motsumi and Ditsweletse junior secondary schools in Letlhakane needed electricity upgrade.
And if so, how has the poor or little electricity output affected the schools, which department have mostly been affected and when would the electricity be upgraded. BOPA
