27 Nov 2017

An official from More Power Investments, Mr Keatlaretse Ntuelang says enthusiasm, determination, courage and commitment are the driving forces to attaining academic excellence.

Speaking at Sekgoma Primary School staff awards ceremony recently, Mr Ntuelang said it was imperative for institutions to reflect on what they had done during their business year.

He said it was even more important to recognise and honour each individual’s contributions to appreciate and celebrate the good work they had done as a team.

“We send our children to school and entrust you with them with an intention that they gather knowledge and improve their way of life and it is wise to appreciate your good work,” he said.

He further advised the staff to always set goals and targets for themselves at the beginning of every year and make it a norm to work towards achieving them rather than working in vain.

Mr Ntuelang applauded teachers for their good academic performance and encouraged them to work hard since the nation was expecting more from them as educators.

Furthermore, he said Botswana Teachers Union encouraged its clients to put more effort in their work just like they did as their representatives.

He informed the gathering that his company had pledged a WiFi access to the school at a cost of P5 000, adding that DOTTESS Company also pledged to subscribe for the first 12 months Internet service of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation  (BTC) gold package.

North West region principal education officer, Ms Popagano Mokobi encouraged staff to introspect and do away with bad practices that might have negative impact on their performance.

She said their academic performance was evident that the school was determined.

Therefore, she encouraged teachers to continue setting high attainable goals.

She further encouraged the school head to lead staf with humility and reward good performance.

“They say motivation is the oxygen of the soul so rewarding good performance is a very important step in the right direction,” she said.

Ms Mokobi revealed that performance appreciation was now becoming a common practice in many organisations and advised the staff to manage the school for the best interest of the learners, community and government at large.

For her part, the school head, Ms Tshegofatso Molato thanked staff for doing a great job.

Even though the year was not easy due to lack of stationery which demotivated them, she said they worked as a team to produce better results.

She said the school, which had been performing poorly for the past five years had managed to perform well in year 2016 by scoring 70.3 per cent. ENDS
